Everton, Crystal Palace eyeing Xeka swoop

Everton and Crystal Palace are among the clubs reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder Xeka.

A report from TEAMtalk claims that Everton and Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder Xeka, and they could look to sign him up on a free transfer.

Xeka is currently a free agent after his contract expired with Stade Rennais. The midfielder will look to sort out his future soon, and it remains to be seen whether the two Premier League clubs can convince him to join them.

Apparently, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United are keen on the player as well. In addition, Championship clubs Southampton and West Bromwich Albion have made enquiries to the player’s agent as well.

Xeka has had a difficult time over the past year, and he barely played last season. The Portuguese midfielder had to undergo ankle surgery back in January, and he failed to make his mark at Stade Rennais.

Previously, he has won the Ligue 1 title with Lille, and he will hope to get his career back on track once again. The opportunity to join a Premier League club will be an attractive proposition for the midfielder. Signing him on a free transfer would be a no-risk addition, and the transfer seems like a no-brainer as well.

Everton need to add more quality and depth to their midfield, and the 28-year-old could prove to be a useful acquisition. If he manages to settle in quickly and impress at Goodison Park, the Toffees could keep him for the long-term or they could sell him for a profit.

Similarly, Crystal Palace could use more depth in the middle of the park as well. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually. The 28-year-old can operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a central defender. His versatility will be an added bonus for the two English clubs.

The fact that he is available for a free transfer makes him an enticing prospect for a number of clubs. So, the likes of Everton and Crystal Palace should look to move quickly in order to get the deal done.
