Arsenal are reportedly ready to cash in on star midfielder Thomas Partey amid interest from Serie A giants Juventus.
According to Football Transfers, Premier League giants Arsenal are ready to listen to offers for midfield star Thomas Partey. The 30-year-old midfielder, currently on a £200,000-a-week deal, is a target for Serie A giants Juventus.
The 30-year-old’s standing at the club has taken a hit given the arrival of Declan Rice for a club record fee. Injuries have not done the Ghanaian international any favours either as Arsenal continue to chug on without him.
It leaves Partey in a tricky position heading into the 2024 January transfer window. Juventus are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, and this could see the Gunners welcome bids for Partey.
Arsenal were open to letting the midfielder leave in the summer provided they could bring in a replacement. It indicates that Partey is not an untouchable in Mikel Arteta’s plans. It is further illustrated by the fact that the Gunners boss has deployed the 30-year-old out of position this season. Surely, should a good offer come in, he will be allowed to call it quits at the Emirates.
The timing is also good given that Partey has just 18 months to go on his current deal at Arsenal. Selling him next January could give the North London side the best shot of recouping a decent transfer fee.
The Ghanaian international held showdown talks with Arteta before leaving for international duty, and the latest development suggests it is only a matter of time before he is moved on. Partey excelled last season as Arsenal made a surprising title bid that eventually fell short.
Partey’s £200,000 per week salary is a huge strain on Arsenal’s resources, especially so given his standing in the current roster. They are not ready to accept the player’s demand for a new long term contract, more or less clearing the path for both parties to act in January.
His midfield partner Granit Xhaka left in the summer transfer window, and Partey could soon follow. A move to Juventus could help him rekindle his career at a top club while also continuing to play in Europe.
The midfielder was also embroiled into certain unsavoury accusations last season. Having seen how Manchester United scored self goals in their handling of the Mason Greenwood situation, it makes sense for the Gunners to cash in on Partey at the first opportunity.
