Chelsea, Liverpool, and Real Madrid might have to pay €120 million to sign Newcastle United talisman Bruno Guimaraes.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United might have to accept offers of around €120 million to part ways with Bruno Guimaraes. But the Magpies have currently adopted a not-for-sale stance on the Brazilian midfield powerhouse. He is a target for Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United. The 25-year-old arrived from Lyon in a deal worth around €42 million. And he has proven worthy of the outlay by Newcastle United 18 months ago.
The Brazilian international has become a talismanic figure for Newcastle United, going from strength to strength in the last year and a half. Guimaraes has turned out 61 times thus far for the Tyneside club, chipping in with ten goals and six assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs.
Liverpool unsuccessfully attempted to secure Guimaraes’s services in the summer transfer window. He was also a target for Chelsea and Manchester City. The two Premier League heavyweights are still keen on signing the former Lyon midfielder. In addition, he is the subject of interest from Real Madrid.
Real Madrid’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes might be surprising. But with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching the end of their glittering careers, the Merengues need to invest in a younger midfielder. The Newcastle United talisman is thus a viable target for Real Madrid.
As for Liverpool, the Merseyside club signed four midfielders in the summer transfer window. But amid uncertainties surrounding Thiago Alcantara, Guimaraes can be his long-term replacement. Meanwhile, Chelsea might not need another midfielder after signing several youngsters this year. But even if they pursue the 25-year-old, he will cost a bomb.
The report claims that while Newcastle United will prefer not to sell Guimaraes, a bid worth €120 million might turn their head. However, recent reports have claimed that the Brazilian midfield powerhouse is on the verge of signing a new contract at St. James’ Park. So, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Liverpool can put a spanner in the works for the Magpies.
