Tottenham have secured themselves one of the promising young defenders in Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split, but will join only in 2025.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have agreed a move for Croatian defensive prodigy Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split. The 16-year-old is likely to join only in 2025, but on the road to acquiring him, Spurs have reportedly beaten competition from at least five top clubs.

Tottenham have visibly changed their transfer approach in the market since the summer window and are already reaping the rewards. The profiles of new players that came in during the summer were visibly better than those signed under former managers, especially Antonio Conte.

James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Destiney Udogie have elevated the squad’s quality and brought about good results on the pitch. Spurs will remain focused on building a good team for Ange Postecoglopu but will have eyes on some young individuals at other clubs.

Tottenham, of all clubs, have seen first-hand the importance of bringing in exceptional young talent and then elevating them into first-team action. They have taken one huge step by acquiring Croatian defensive prodigy Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the 16-year-old was convinced by Tottenham’s project and chose them over potentially five other rivals vying for his signature. If that’s true, Spurs must have beaten big competition to sign the Croatian.

As per the Evening Standard, the fee for Vuskovic could reach around £12 million, which is stellar considering his age. A host of clubs, including English trio Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, kept tabs on the defender.

Barcelona were also interested initially, but their finances may have scuppered any dreams of landing the Croatian defensive prodigy. It’s compelling to predict all five interested clubs, but the names so far mean Tottenham have had a massive undertaking.

The 16-year-old will likely remain at Hajduk Split until he turns 18, meaning Spurs fans could see the Croatian first hand around 2025. Tottenham took up a similar approach with Udogie last summer when they signed him and allowed him to stay at Udinese to aid his development. They hope to reap similar rewards with Vuskovic when he comes to north London in 2025.
