Brighton & Hove Albion are hoping to tie Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma, a target for Liverpool and Manchester City, to a new contract.

A report from 90min claims that Liverpool and Barcelona are interested in signing Kaoru Mitoma. However, Brighton & Hove Albion are hopeful of agreeing on a new contract with the 26-year-old winger.

Brighton have managed to put together a talented squad in recent seasons. And they seem strong enough despite sanctioning the departures of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo for big money earlier this past summer.

They sold Robert Sanchez to Chelsea as well. It seems that Mitoma could be the next one out of the door at Brighton. The Japanese winger has attracted the attention of the top clubs with his performances, and the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona could make a move for him.

Liverpool need to bring in a quality winger, especially if Mohamed Salah ends up leaving the club next summer. The Egyptian international was heavily linked with an exit this summer, but the Reds managed to hold on to him despite interest from Saudi Arabia.

Luis Diaz is the only other reliable winger at the club, and Mitoma would be a superb acquisition. The 26-year-old will add pace and trickery to the Liverpool attack. The Japanese international is one of the best dribblers in the Premier League, and he will add some much-needed unpredictability to Jurgen Klopp’s attack going forward.

Similarly, Barcelona could use more quality in the final third as well. They could use a tricky winger after the departure of Ousmane Dembélé. The opportunity to play for clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona will certainly be an attractive option for the 26-year-old winger, and he is likely to be tempted if there is a concrete proposal on the table.

It remains to be seen whether he is ready to finalise a new contract with Brighton despite interest from top clubs. The Japanese international is likely to cost a premium next summer, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Barcelona follow up on their interest with an official bid. Both clubs have the financial resources to get a deal done and Mitoma could transform them in the attack.
