Fabrizio Romano rules out active Manchester United interest in Joao Palhinha

Fabrizio Romano has stated that there is no active interest from Manchester United in the services of Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.

In his feature with Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano has ruled out Manchester United’s interest in the services of Joao Palhinha. The 28-year-old midfielder has been the talk of the town of late, and he has been linked with the Red Devils in the last few days. However, there is no active interest from United in him.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder was on the radar of Bayern Munich throughout the summer transfer window. The German giants were very close to acquiring his services. The Portuguese international had already completed his medical and was ready to be presented as a Bayern player.

But, Fulham failed to secure a replacement in time, and the deal with Bayern collapsed. As a result, Palhinha is back at his parent club and is expected to carry on with normal duties. The Portuguese international joined the Cottagers last summer after impressive performances at Sporting CP.

The 28-year-old had an exceptional first season at the club, he was involved in 40 matches and was on the pitch for close to 3,500 minutes. He even contributed with four goals. The former Sporting CP defensive midfielder has been in a rock in the centre of the park.

He has managed to impress fans as well as pundits. And, his performances were the reason Bayern wanted him in their ranks so desperately. While they might have failed to acquire his services in the summer, they are expected to return in the winter transfer market. Meanwhile, Manchester United have been linked with the 28-year-old of late.

Multiple reports suggest that the Red Devils are interested in having Palhinha in their ranks and they started plotting a move for the Portuguese international. But, according to Romano, there is no active interest from Manchester United.

Romano on Palhinha to Manchester United: “I’m aware that Manchester United have been linked as suitors for Palhinha when the transfer window opens again in January, but I’m not a fan of commenting on rumours about something that is still four months away.”

“Nothing is going on now, and also Man United just spent money on another defensive midfielder with the Sofyan Amrabat deal. I think Bayern will try again for Palhinha but again, it’s too early to say for sure, January is far.”

Manchester United recently acquired the services of Sofyan Amrabat, a defensive midfielder, and they already have Casemiro as well as Scott McTominay in their ranks. As a result, adding another defensive midfielder won’t make sense.
