Newcastle United are plotting a late move for veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, but the Frenchman does not lean towards moving to the north east.

According to Martin Hardy of The Times, Newcastle United could plot a late move for veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The reason for targetting a new goalkeeper at this stage of the window seems baffling, considering they have enough depth, but the Frenchman is not leaning towards making the move.

Hugo Lloris, no longer a part of Ange Postecoglou’s first team plans, may become the subject of transfer speculation. The veteran Frenchman has become Tottenham’s second or even third choice following the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario and could move on with a year left on his deal.

To everyone’s surprise, Newcastle United are now plotting a late move for the veteran goalkeeper and may approach Tottenham with an offer. The Magpies have plenty of depth in the department, as the decision to pursue the Frenchman seems baffling.

As per the report, Lloris is not leaning towards joining the Magpies and making the trip up north. As things stand, the Frenchman may feel right keeping his place as the second or third choice, although some other windows are still open beyond tonight’s deadline.

Lloris was linked with several offers, particularly in the early stages of the window. Inter Milan were one of the sides keen but never made any move. If Newcastle United approaches, Tottenham will raise eyebrows and may even consider allowing the Frenchman to join.

Martin Hardy insists Newcastle’s approach does not include a loan fee, which could indicate their insistence on taking the Frenchman on a permanent deal. Why Howe needs another goalkeeper at this stage remains the question, considering Nick Pope has ample backup with Martin Dubravka and Loris Karius.

After impressing on a short-term deal signed last season, the latter extended his stay. Lloris had also rejected an earlier approach from Lazio, which would indicate his persistence to finish his contract at Tottenham.

The report states later that if Lloris fails to move out of the club, Tottenham may look to cancel his contract by mutual agreement. Overall, the links to the Magpies seem somewhat surprising and not practical from any angle, although there’s still some time left in the window for this to materialise.
