Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood is joining Spanish minnows Getafe

According to Fabrizio Romano, Getafe have now got the deal over the line before the clock runs out this summer. As things stand, the Spaniards are ensuring that the paperwork is in order to see the transfer through.

If some had suggested a couple of years ago that Mason Greenwood would end up at Getafe from Manchester United, it would have appeared preposterous. However, that is the reality of the 21-year-old’s situation on summer deadline day.

Greenwood appears to have played his last game for the Red Devils and could be on his way out. He was linked with a move to Serie A giants Lazio earlier today but with the Italian window now shut, that deal is all but dead.

Now with mere minutes to go before the English window shuts, the Red Devils star has been linked with a loan switch to Spanish minnows Getafe. The Azulones are the only side in the fray for Greenwood and it could very much prove to be a case of beggars not being choosers.

Moving to a low profile side could help Greenwood retain his focus in football and also help him stay out of the public eye. Public perception is massively against the Englishman and he will do well to do his talking on the field while keeping away from any other controversy.

Both Manchester United and Getafe are confident that the deal go through without any late hiccups. Doing so will also allow the Red Devils to get the player off their hands while they plot their next move. Surely, they are not still thinking of retaining him following the vocal backlash.

Whether Greenwood will be welcomed with open arms by the Getafe faithful remains to be seen. After all, the allegations levied against him are serious and we have all seen how Benjamin Mendy was welcomed at Lorient.
