Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is reportedly set to join Bundesliga club FC Augsburg on loan today.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Japhet Tanganga is set to leave Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur for FC Augsburg later today. The Bundesliga club will secure his services on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
The 24-year-old utility came through the ranks at Hotspur Way, making hjs senior bow for the club in 2019. Tanganga has since made 50 appearances for the North London side, assisting one goal in the process.
Tanganga has failed to emerge as a regular first-team player and is often used as an utility man or in rotation. Given his age and potential, there is every reason to believe he can secure regular play time elsewhere.
Primarily a centre-back, Tanganga can also do a job as a full-back when needed. This versatility holds him in good stead adapting to the modern game. At 24, he is entering the prime of his career and can do better than to settle for a spot on the bench.

Augsburg could offer Tanganga with an escape route and were in advanced negotiations with Tottenham for the same. Both teams appear to have reached a consensus as the 24-year-old is now set to move to Germany.
The versatile defender will initially move to the WWK Arena initially on a season long loan with the Bundesliga club handed the opportunity to make the arrangement permanent next summer. In many ways, the onus is now on the player to show Augsburg that he can be a valuable long term asset.
The former England Under-21 star will undergo his medical today morning before putting pen to paper later in the day. As long as there are no last minute hitches, Tanganga should be an Augsburg player come today’s deadline.
Tottenham, for their part, are not taking their eye off the ball despite a verbal agreement being reached. With due diligence being done, it could just be a matter of time before the transfer is made official.
Tanganga does not appear to be in Ange Postecoglou’s plans and will only have slipped further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie. A summer sale is certainly the best way forward for all parties.
