Tottenham could make a late move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but his £60 million-plus price tag could prove out of their range.
According to The Independent, Tottenham have sights on Eberechi Eze at this stage of the window. Crystal Palace have placed a massive £60 million-plus price tag on the English playmaker, which could raise doubts about Spurs’ prospects in this chase.
Crystal Palace are still not in a comfortable place with the futures of their key stars. The South London club are bracing for approaches from some top clubs late in the window and possibly until the very end of deadline day. But their overall position in the market could see them as a stronger force.
For instance, Liverpool may not make a formal offer for Cheick Doucoure, while Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze seem content at the club so far. They let Chelsea wander close to Michael Olise. But the winger has since signed a new contract with Palace. Similarly, they are trying to offer Eze a new deal.
However, with just over a day left in the summer window, Tottenham might make a late move for Eze if they can find the money. Crystal Palace had quoted £70 million to Manchester City when they showed an interest and will stick to that asking price.
Either way, the £60 million-plus-rated English playmaker will seem like a costly acquisition for Tottenham, and they may not afford to make a move. Palace will hope for the same but sit alert until the window shuts. Spurs have been looking at a new attacking signing but have not made any significant efforts to sign anyone.
Yesterday, they were heavily linked with Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, who has since agreed to join Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan deal. Tottenham may have pursued the Spaniard with vigour. But Brennan Johnson remains their favoured target.
Even the Nottingham Forest star seems out of range, with the Tricky Trees likely to demand at least £40 million or more for the Welsh attacker. Hence, other than a loan move from somewhere, it is challenging to see Tottenham add a new attacker to their ranks unless some late deal pops up on deadline day.
As for Eze, the player does fit their requirement and add a new dimension to their attacking play. But they cannot afford him right now. Tottenham will also focus on offloading a few players like Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, and Tanguy Ndombele while adding a name or two on the final day of the window.
