Barcelona and MLS giants LAFC are reportedly advancing talks over a deal for 20-year-old Senegalese centre-back Mamadou Fall.
According to a report by Tom Bogert of The Athletic, Mamadou Fall is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the reigning La Liga champions are close to signing the 20-year-old centre-back from the MLS club. They hope to sign him on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season while possessing a purchase option.
Mamadou Fall has established himself as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Major League Soccer since rejoining LAFC following a loan spell in Spain. The Senegalese defender has turned out five times thus far this season, although only one of those outings has come in the MLS.
A graduate of the Montverde Academy, the 20-year-old joined LAFC in June 2021. Meanwhile, he spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Villarreal, primarily representing the Yellow Submarine’s reserve side. And Fall might return to Spain soon, with Barcelona advancing talks to secure his services this summer.
The Catalan giants might sign only one or two more players for their first team, with Joao Felix being the top target. And the most recent update has suggested that the Portuguese international might be willing to lower his wages to join Barcelona. Meanwhile, the Blaugrana might also sign a few players for the reserve team.
Recent reports have linked Barcelona with Petterson Novaes, with the Brazilian prospect likely arriving on loan from Flamengo for the remainder of the season. And another whizkid plying his trade in the Americas might move to Barcelona before Friday’s summer transfer deadline.

While Tom Bogert has not specified if he will join the first team or Barcelona Atletic, he will likely represent the reserve team. That is because the senior side has a plethora of world-class centre-backs. So Fall will unlikely have enough game time to make his mark. Meanwhile, Villarreal will look to beat Barcelona to the Senegalese defender’s signature.
