Eric Dier was reportedly offered to Bayern Munich by Tottenham, who are eager to offload the unwanted 29-year-old defender.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham have offered Eric Dier to Bayern Munich, and the Bundesliga side are reportedly evaluating the option. The Bavarians may look for a versatile defender, with the 29-year-old Spurs man capable of playing as a defender and midfielder.

Eric Dier’s story is one of the most baffling tales in recent memory. The 29-year-old ace was on course to sign a new contract around March-April and now surplus to requirements. Whether his short-term performances harboured the previous decision remains the question, but he currently does not have a role in this team.

From being one of their leaders for many years to sitting outside of matchday squads for three games, Dier has fallen off the perch at Tottenham, and there’s no way back. Spurs have already decided to cash in on the 29-year-old if the right offer comes, and there have been a few clubs circling with enquiries.

At first, there were links to Saudi Arabia, but nothing came of it. Now, Tottenham are showing desperation in their efforts to offload him as they offered Dier to Bayern Munich. The German giants may look for a defender late in the window to add to their squad depth, and the Spurs man could become a curious option.

Dier’s ability to play defensively and in midfield may entice Thomas Tuchel into bringing the 29-year-old. However, he does not seem like their absolute priority as there are other players Bayern could target in the time remaining in the window.

As per Florian Plettenberg, Bayern have not rejected the idea altogether, as they held an internal discussion to determine this offer’s viability. On paper, Dier is a low-cost and experienced defender with a few good years left in his tank. If the move happens, Dier could reunite with former teammate Harry Kane.

Alternatively, his performances have not evoked anything significant over the last few years, and there’s a reason why, beyond a few clubs, there’s barely any interest. Dier does not have a place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the season, although Tottenham could still target a new defender before deadline day.
