Arsenal star Albert Sambi Lokonga has reportedly been offered to Liverpool over a possible late summer move.

According to Get Football News France, the representatives of Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga have offered the player’s services to top-four rivals Liverpool as the 2023 summer transfer window draws to a close.

This comes ahead of what should be a busy couple of days for the Merseysiders as they struggle to add to their paper-thin roster. Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo add quality to the Reds’ roster. But the exit of several players leaves Jurgen Klopp short of options in the middle.

More so, Stefan Bajcetic is still recovering from his injury, while Thiago Alcanatara’s injury concerns are well documented. One injury in the middle of the park should be enough to get the alarm bells ringing at Anfield.

The club have been linked with several midfield stars like Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure. However, with time running out this summer, neither player appears any closer to making the move to Merseyside.

Perhaps hinting at the lack of an opportunity, Lokonga’s agents have now offered the midfielder to Liverpool as he continues to slide down the pecking order at Anfield. The Belgian midfielder moved from Anderlecht to the Gunners in 2021 but has failed to nail down a starting spot in Mikel Arteta’s side.

In fact, he spent the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Crystal Palace where he managed just a handful of games. Arsenal did not miss him in what was a surprise title race in 2022-23 and little is bound to change this season.

The arrival of Declan Rice and the resurgence shown by Fabio Vieira put more obstacles in Lokonga’s path, effectively making him a rotation player at the Emirates. Liverpool are often choosy on the type of players they sign, and it remains to be seen if the Belgian can offer the Reds anything of value.

As things stand, the Reds have no inclination to make a move for the 23-year-old’s services. A good passer, Lokonga has failed to show any semblance of adjusting to life in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp and Co are better off giving the likes of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones the opportunity to impress rather than go all in for Lokonga, even if it is for the right price.
