David Moyes’s West Ham United are interested in acquiring the services of the 26-year-old Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez.

According to a report by The Times, West Ham United are keen on bolstering their defence before the end of the transfer window and have their eyes set on Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. The 26-year-old is way down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp, and he could part ways with the Reds in search of more first-team minutes.

Gomez came through the ranks at Charlton Athletic before making the move to Liverpool in the summer of 2015. The England international has been an important part of the Merseyside club over the years. But of late, he has fallen down the pecking order.

He has featured in a total of 175 matches for the Reds since arriving at the club. Last season, he was involved in a total of just 31 matches and was on the pitch for just over 2,100 minutes. While Gomez was given decent minutes last season, the 26-year-old seeks more as he wants to push for a place in the England squad.

But, he is unlikely to get the desired game time at Liverpool. The former Charlton defender is below Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip in the pecking order. He has been involved in two Premier League matches this season, with both appearances coming off the bench.

His most recent appearance came against Newcastle United. The 26-year-old managed to impress one and all after coming off the bench early in the first half post the red card to van Dijk. His impressive performance and desire for more game time have resulted in interest from West Ham United.

The Hammers have been looking to bolster their defence throughout the summer. They were linked with Harry Maguire at one stage, but that transfer is unlikely to go through. Now, they are focused on the Liverpool defender. The East London club are internally discussing the possibility of signing the 26-year-old.

While they are keen on having Gomez in their ranks and are plotting a move, the Hammers need to hurry because there is a lot of interest in the England international from the Saudi Pro League clubs. Meanwhile, the latest reports suggest Liverpool might not part ways with Gomez after all.
