Manchester United have enquired about Rico Henry’s availability, but Brentford may not entertain late offers for their important star.
According to the Daily Mail, Rico Henry has emerged as a target for Manchester United as they continue searching for a new left-back. Brentford may block any move for the 26-year-old Premier League defender with little time left in the window to find a suitable replacement.
Rico Henry has started the season with a bang, providing an assist in the opening game against Tottenham. Brentford have performed well this season, and the 26-year-old Premier League defender has been a major part of their success.
Thomas Frank will not have sufficient time to find a replacement for the left-back if Brentford allows Henry to join Manchester United so late in this window. The Red Devils are on a quest to find a new full-back before the transfer deadline after the severe injury to Luke Shaw.
The Manchester United left-back will miss around two months of action with a muscle injury, and Erik ten Hag feels there’s not much cover in the position. Against Nottingham Forest, right-back Diogo Dalot started in place of Shaw as Tyrell Malacia remains sidelined.
Manchester United received positive news regarding their chase of Marc Cucurella, as Chelsea are open to a loan deal. The Spaniard is not alone on their shortlist, as they have now added Henry to the mix.
Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso also features on their list, while they have also chased Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon as an alternative. If they fail in these pursuits, Manchester United might make a concerted effort to sign Henry from Brentford.
They may have also failed to persuade Tottenham for Ivan Perisic. Someone like Henry or Cucurella represents a long-term option for Ten Hag. Malacia did not prove himself during his debut season with the Red Devils; hence, there are doubts about his long-term future at the club.
As for the Henry chase, Manchester United must dig deep to find a resolution with Brentford. The London side have the comfort in negotiations with Henry tied to a contract until 2026, although they might show a willingness to sell in 2024.
