Manchester United are interested  in acquiring the services of the 30-year-old Lyon full-back Nicolas Tagliafico on loan.

According to Daily Mail, Manchester United are considering signing Nicolas Tagliafico from Olympique Lyon. The Red Devils are in desperate need of a new left-back before the end of the transfer window, and they are keeping a close eye on the 30-year-old World Cup winner, who has already played under Erik ten Hag back in the day.

Manchester United recently suffered a major blow as their first-choice left-back Luke Shaw picked up a long-term injury. The England international is all set to be out for a few months. His absence leaves a major void in the team. As a result, they have been on the lookout for a new full-back.

The Red Devils have shortlisted the likes of Marc Cucurella, Marcos Alonso and Sergio Reguilon. They have been in talks with their representatives and respective clubs over a potential loan deal. Reports suggested that Chelsea are ready to let Cucurella leave on loan but only on their terms. Meanwhile, talks with Alonso and Reguilon are also progressing nicely.

Despite that, Manchester United are also looking to push for Nicolas Tagliafico. Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the World Cup winner. The Dutch manager has worked with him in the recent past and believes he could help their cause.

The 30-year-old has enough experience of playing in ten Hag’s system, and he could easily cover for the absence of Luke Shaw. But, it will be interesting to see if Lyon will be willing to send him out on loan just a year after signing him.

Tagliafico arrived at the French club last summer from Ajax. In the 2022/23 season, he was involved in a total of 38 matches and was on the pitch for over 3,200 minutes. He even contributed towards six goals.

The Argentine international played an important role last season, and something similar is expected this time around. The former Ajax defender has been involved in all three of their Ligue 1 matches and has played the full quote of minutes.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils cannot afford to sign a new full-back at this stage. They are focused on Sofyan Amrabat and are looking to loan in a player to cover for Shaw. And according to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have contacted Lyon to enquire about the requirements of a possible deal. And, it will be interesting to see how things unfold from here on.
