Bayern Munich want Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, and a return loan for Ryan Gravenberch might be on the cards.

According to Bild, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Premier League giants Manchester United could swap midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Scott McTominay respectively in the summer transfer window.

The future of both players remain unclear as we head into the final days of the summer transfer window. Gravenberch’s move to the Allianz Arena has not materialised as expected, and he is far from a first teamer under Thomas Tuchel.

This has seen the Dutchman linked with a summer exit as Liverpool and Manchester United show interest. The latter sold Fred earlier this summer and are yet to replace him. With McTominay’s future also in doubt, it is imperative that they bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, believes his side lacks a specialist number six and now has his eye on McTominay. This represents a solid opportunity for Manchester United to not just rid themselves of a player not in their plans but also bring in Gravenberch.

A move to Old Trafford will reunite the Dutchman with Erik ten Hag following their time together at Ajax Amsterdam. The Manchester United tactician could very well coax the potential out of Gravenberch once again, this time at the Theatre of Dreams.

While both players are not specialists in the same skill set, a new challenge would benefit them. Swapping Manchester United for Bayern Munich or vice versa is more or less the same as both clubs are rife with European heritage.

More so, it will also give McTominay and Gravenberch the opportunity to work with managers who are keen to have them at the club. It represents a world of opportunity, far different from the challenges they are currently facing.

Gravenberch can play in between the lines in the Manchester United midfield, taking the pressure off Christian Eriksen and summer signing Mason Mount. It should make the transition from the defence to the attack easier for ten Hag, helping him further implement his tactics to a tee.

McTominay, meanwhile, could excel in the number six role at Bayern, thriving in a league that is comparatively less competitive. His physicality and ability to break up play should provide the others around him an opportunity to push forward to great effect. A swap deal could prove to be a win-win for all parties involved.
