Leeds United have submitted an enquiry for the services of 23-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence.

According to Paul O Keefe, Leeds United are keen on having Djed Spence in their ranks. The Championship club are looking to bolster their defence as they look to push for an immediate return to the English top flight. And, the 23-year-old right-back is a name on their transfer target list.

Spence was a part of the Fulham youth ranks before joining Middlesbrough. He came up the ranks at the Boro and established himself in their first team. On the back of consistent performances, Spurs acquired his services in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £20 million.

While he was expected to fight for a starting place, things didn’t go according to plan. Over the first six months, he featured in a total of just six matches for the first team and post that he was sent out on a short-term loan to Rennes.

During his loan spell at the French club, the 23-year-old featured in a total of 10 matches but didn’t have the kind of impact everyone expected. The English youth international has now returned to Tottenham but he is unlikely to get enough first-team minutes at the London club.

Spence still has four years left on his deal with Tottenham but it looks like he could be headed to an exit in the ongoing window. The 23-year-old seeks first-team minutes and is pushing for a move elsewhere.

According to reports, even Spurs are looking to offload him. They already have a huge squad and with the former Fulham defender surplus to requirements, they are looking to cash in on him.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are the ones keen on having him in their ranks. The English club had a tough time last season as they ended up getting relegated to the second division. The drop has resulted in financial loss and a lot of talent has already parted ways with the club.

As they look for an immediate return to the Premier League, they are looking to invest in their defence and are ready to bet on the 23-year-old who is yet to fire since joining Spurs. Leeds have already enquired about his services. They are ready to consider all options regarding a potential transfer.

With Spurs looking to sell, the player keen on greener pastures and Leeds willing to go the distance, a move in the ongoing window looks like a real possibility.
