Liverpool will have to break the bank and pay €70 million to sign 21-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

According to a report by Bild, Liverpool are keen on finishing the transfer window on a high with a few signings. The Reds are looking to add a centre-back in the mix before the deadline day. While their priority throughout the summer has been the midfield, they are also looking for defensive reinforcement.

The Merseyside club haven’t had the best of times in the ongoing transfer window. They started off in fine fashion with two world-class acquisitions, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. But, post that, things haven’t one according to plan.

The Reds wanted to sign Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. Liverpool were willing to break the bank for their services but they ended up choosing Chelsea instead. While they have handled the situation by signing 30-year-old Wataru Endō, a lot still remains to be taken care of.

The Merseyside club want to secure a new defender before the end of the transfer window. Their manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for a left-footed centre-back. Someone who is young and has huge potential. Piero Hincapie is a name on their list as the 21-year-old has all the qualities the German manager is looking for.

Hincapie joined Bayer Leverkusen back in the summer of 2021. Since joining the German club, he has gone from strength to strength. And, there is a lot of interest in his services.

The 21-year-old is versatile in nature and can even feature as a left-back if needed. And. the Ecuador international’s arrival will surely bolster Liverpool’s defence. It will add depth as well as a lot of quality to their squad.

While the Merseyside club are keen on his signatures, Leverkusen are in no hurry to offload him. They had recently extended his contract until the summer of 2027 and are keen on having him until next season at least.

They won’t entertain any offers for the 21-year-old unless someone is willing to offer €70 million for his services. The price tag will surely make Liverpool’s life difficult and it will be interesting to see how they respond to it.
