Liverpool decide to block Mohamed Salah exit

Liverpool ready to dig in their heels to retain Mohamed Salah this summer

According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Liverpool are unwilling to entertain any offers for star attacker Mohamed Salah in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Egyptian is one of the best players in world football and has established himself as a legend at Anfield. One of the club’s finest-ever imports, he has netted 187 goals and assisted another 80 in 307 games across all competitions so far.

Salah signed a new contract only last year and is one of the last few members of the club’s Premier League-winning side still on Merseyside. At 31, the Egyptian remains one of the finest players in the world and it comes as no surprise that Saudi clubs are circling.

Salah is the finest Muslim athlete in the world today and landing him would be a significant statement for any Saudi side let alone Al Ittihad. The Saudi giants have already raided Liverpool once this season, landing star midfielder Fabinho.

They are ready to offer Salah insane wages that will dwarf what he already earns at Anfield. However, the Reds appear unwilling to even negotiate an exit this summer and show no signs of engaging with the Middle Eastern side.

As things stand, the only way we can expect movement in this transfer saga is if Salah forced the move. Such a move would certainly tarnish his reputation with the Liverpool faithful, something he will want to avoid.

At 31, he is not getting any younger and Liverpool will need to replace him sooner or later. Given that it is this late in the summer transfer window, it makes sense for the Reds to sell him next summer. Then 32, the club can land themselves a solid fee for a player whose powers will be on the wane.

Selling Salah in the coming days will leave Liverpool in an uncomfortable position. It will leave them with much to do in a short period of time with yet another glaring void in the squad to fill. It promises to be a turbulent end to the summer transfer window on Merseyside next week.
