Manchester City are exploring the idea of signing Matheus Nunes, but Wolves are unlikely to welcome interest so late in the window.

According to The Athletic, Manchester City could explore a move for Matheus Nunes ahead of the next few days. Wolves are not overly enthused about entertaining interest so late in the window, but Pep Guardiola’s side may test them with a big offer.

Manchester City won their opening two games of the Premier League season besides the UEFA Super Cup. Pep Guardiola still feels his squad needs an addition or two. The treble winners have done well in the window with their signings, but the midfield area needs another player.

The arrival of Mateo Kovacic helped them fill up the numbers after Ilkay Gundogan’s departure. Guardiola does not necessarily see him as the German’s replacement. The pursuit of Declan Rice showed they needed another body there. They have failed to sign several well-known stars, including the now-Arsenal midfielder.

They were inching closer to signing Lucas Paqueta from West Ham. However, an FA-led enquiry into betting breaches in connection with the Brazilian may have halted a move to Man City. With the transfer window shrinking fast for Guardiola, the Catalan could make another attempt at a player from his small pool of options.

Wolves star Matheus Nunes emerges as a target for Man City ahead of the last few days of the window. The 24-year-old Premier League ace only arrived the previous season from Sporting CP and has made a good impression on some top clubs.

Liverpool were perenially linked with the 24-year-old midfielder since last January, but that interest may have already cooled. Man City are exploring other options on the side, like Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but a move so late in the window brings along many complications.

Nunes had a fantastic season and started the current one rather brightly. Wolves have no interest in entertaining offers so late in the window, but their financial standing might force the issue. Man City may have to lodge a persuasive bid to start the talks, but plenty of complexities are ahead.

Wolves paid a fee between £35-40 million for the 24-year-old Premier League ace and will undoubtedly demand with a massive profit in mind. Man City have shown their hand by lodging a massive offer for Paqueta earlier. If there’s a possibility of this transpiring, they might have to pay a similar fee.
