Al-Ettifaq are considering a summer move for Manchester United outcast Mason Greenwood.

According to The Sun, Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq are considering a summer swoop for Manchester United star Mason Greenwood in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The young Englishman was one of the best players to come out of the club in recent years and appeared primed for superstardom. However, a poor choice of decisions off the field has seen Greenwood reap his just desserts.

The 21-year-old appeared to be set to return to the fold at Old Trafford, only for public outcry to change the club’s opinion. The Red Devils have since changed their tone and are ready to end their association with the versatile attacker.

While Manchester United have made their feelings clear, it remains to be seen if they will terminate Greenwood’s contract or settle for a sale/loan. The latter will see them recoup what they can for the 21-year-old whose ability as a footballer is well documented.

With the summer transfer window set to close soon, the Red Devils are in a race against time to send Greenwood on his way. Failing to do so could set them back several million pounds. However, the Saudi Arabian transfer window runs until September 20th, giving clubs from the country an added advantage in terms of time.

Al-Ettifaq, now managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, are keen on Greenwood. They have started the season well, winning the first two games and could yet add reinforcements to continue their purple patch of form. Gerrard’s club are considering an offer that could see Greenwood net £10 million-a-year in wages.

It could aid the 21-year-old to resurrect his career away from the watchful eye of the European media. But how a move for such a player will impact the images of manager Gerrard and skipper Jordan Henderson remains to be seen. There is no shortage of options for Greenwood with several teams keen on his services.

This includes the likes of AS Roma, Juventus, Istanbul Basaksehir, Galatasaray and other Saudi Arabian clubs. It is unfortunate that Greenwood’s career has come to this. The 21-year-old has boundless ability on the ball. But he can blame nobody but himself for the fall from grace. As you sow, so you reap.
