Manchester United have received a major setback in their pursuit of 27-year-old Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Manchester United are not in the driving seat in their pursuit of Benjamin Pavard. The 27-year-old French international is all set to part ways with Bayern Munich and United are keen on having him in their ranks. But, they are not his priority.

Pavard has been at Bayern since the summer of 2019. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has been an important part of their first team. But, he is now looking to move on and take up a new challenge in his career.

While the German giants want to keep him at the club, they don’t really have many options to play with. The French international’s contract runs out in less than a year’s time. As a result, they are ready to negotiate his departure.

There is interest from Manchester United as well as Inter Milan in his services. The Red Devils have been interested in the 27-year-old for a while now. They are keen on having him in their ranks as they look to bolster their defence.

Pavard is capable enough to feature as a right-back as well as a centre-back. And, his versatility is what makes him a very important transfer target for Erik ten Hag. While the Manchester-based club are interested in signing him, they are looking to first offload their former skipper Harry Maguire.

The Red Devils are desperate for Pavard’s signatures but the player prefers Inter Milan. The Italian giants are very serious about their pursuit and they have made the player feel wanted. Whereas, United are hesitant as they haven’t been able to cash in on Maguire.

Manchester United still have a chance to land him at the club as they are willing to offer more than Inter Milan. The Italian club prefer to pay around €30 million while the Red Devils have let Bayern know that they can go up to €40 million if they manage to get rid of the England international.

With Manchester United ready to pay more, the German giants are not rushing to any conclusion and are waiting for things to happen. Even if United manage to strike a deal with Bayern, they will still have to convince Pavard about the move.
