Premier League giants Chelsea have reignited their interest in the services of 19-year-old Barcelona midfield sensation Gavi.
According to a report by SPORT, Chelsea are keen on having Gavi in their ranks and they will pounce on any opportunity to land the teenage sensation at the club. The Spain international has gone from strength to strength since making his debut for the Catalan giants’ first team back in 2021. And, there is a lot of interest in his services.
Gavi joined Barcelona’s famous youth academy ‘La Masia’ back in the summer of 2015. He came up the ranks at the club and made it to their first team back in 2021. The teenager has already racked up close to 100 first-team appearances and also has 18 goal contributions to his name.
Last season he was involved in a total of 49 matches and racked up over 3,500 minutes. He even contributed towards ten goals. The 19-year-old is a huge prospect and is expected to be one of the world’s best in the near future. However, he might not get enough minutes under Xavi in the 2023/24 season.
According to the report, the Catalan giants are expected to go ahead with the midfield trio of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Ilkay Gundogan on the majority of the occasions. And, during big games, they will look to use Oriol Romeu to have greater defensive cover.
As a result, Gavi might not have the same number of minutes this season. But, they will still use him in the majority of their home games. The kind of signings they have made suggests he won’t be a guaranteed starter and the majority of his minutes might come off the bench or as a starter on the left wing.
With uncertainty around his game time, Chelsea have once again started making their presence felt. The English club are desperate to have the 19-year-old in their ranks. They believe he could be the face of their project and do not want to miss out on any opportunity.
Despite all the talk around his game time, Gavi is keen on staying at the club. He wants to succeed at Barcelona but if he does not get enough game time things could change. And, Chelsea could stand a chance to land him at Stamford Bridge.
