West Ham United have reportedly sounded out a summer swoop for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez in the search for a new striker.
According to a report from 1908.nl, West Ham United have enquired about the availability of Feyenoord’s Mexican hitman Santiago Gimenez, although no concrete move has yet been made. The report adds that the Irons have spoken to Feyenoord as well as the player’s agent as they try to lay the groundwork before making a firm offer for the striker.
David Moyes is left with Danny Ings and Michail Antonio as his two central striker options up top after the Hammers sold Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta. Antonio could possibly be on the way out too, currently linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
So, it is no secret West Ham desperately need to sign a striker in the summer transfer window, although Moyes has played down his desire to sign a new forward publicly, highlighting that winger Jarrod Bowen can operate in a central role.
As such, the Hammers are exploring bringing in a younger striker to compete with Danny Ings. They have been linked with a number of forwards recently, including Armando Broja, Hugo Ekitike, Folarin Balogun, and Elye Wahi. Their search has led them to Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez.
Gimenez adapted swiftly to the Eredivisie after arriving ahead of the 2022/23 campaign from Liga MX side Cruz Azul in his homeland and inspired Feyenoord to Eredivisie title glory ahead of giants PSV and Ajax. The striker bagged an incredible 23 goals from 45 games in all competitions last season.
The Mexican international also shone at the Gold Cup and played a key role in the final, scoring the winning goal to lead El Tri to silverware. The 22-year-old’s goalscoring exploits have attracted interest from across Europe. But cash-loaded West Ham are looking to reunite him with his international teammate and the Hammers’ blockbuster summer capture of Edson Alvarez.
Feyenoord are not in any rush to sell their prized asset, who is under contract until the summer of 2027. However, the money from the sale of several big stars is burning a hole in West Ham’s pocket and could entice the Rotterdam outfit with a lucrative offer they cannot refuse.
