Three Spanish sides and West Ham are keen on €7 million-rated Manchester United prodigy Alvaro Fernandez, who has a year left at the club.

According to Alvaro de Grado and Manuel Amor, there is growing interest in Manchester United’s 20-year-old left-back Alvaro Fernandez. There are about two La Liga clubs and one Segunda side interested in the defender, with his future at Old Trafford far from certain. In addition to that, West Ham are keen on the player as well.

Development of youth stars always takes a backseat at top clubs when they look to climb the first-team ladder. In the case of 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez, there’s no place in Erik ten Hag’s squad for him despite promising signs of playing senior football.

Fernandez spent the previous season with Preston North End in the Championship and thoroughly impressed. He showed ample productivity by playing 42 games and providing six assists in all competitions. Yet, Ten Hag hasn’t counted on him much as the 20-year-old stays on the periphery of the first team.

Despite the injury to Tyrell Malacia, Ten Hag did not indicate using Fernandez as a backup option for Luke Shaw, which could fuel the need to leave the club. The prodigious left-back has a year left on his Manchester United deal, with the club offering to extend it by another season.

The extension could materialise if interested clubs decided to take him on an initial loan. That may happen with three Spanish sides circling the 20-year-old for his signature. West Ham are considering a move for the defender but may show reluctance to pay their €7 million demand.

Manchester United want significant money based on Fernandez’s performances last season. They could also include a similar amount in any buy option presented as part of a loan deal for the 20-year-old defender. The report insists the player wants regular football wherever he plays next season, and accordingly, he would evaluate his next destination.

Burnley was also keen recently on the defender, but their priorities might have changed. Alternatively, Vincent Kompany may only keep him as a backup to his current front runners, which may have deterred Fernandez’s hopes of joining them.

Hence, West Ham seems like a solid option for the €7 million-rated Manchester United prodigy to continue his career. He does not have a future at Old Trafford, but they may have to slash the asking price to have any chance of a permanent sale in this window.
