West Ham United are hoping to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United before the summer transfer window closes.
According to Sky Sports, West Ham United have agreed to personal terms with 30-year-old Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who is set to cost around £30 million this summer.
Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly. A move to West Ham could be ideal for him right now. But recent reports had claimed that the transfer was stalling due to Maguire’s wage demands.
With the 2024 European Championships coming up next summer, Maguire needs to play regularly to cement his place in the England starting lineup. West Ham could certainly provide him with that platform. The Hammers looked quite vulnerable defensively last season, and they will need to tighten up at the back.
Someone like Maguire will certainly help them improve. The 30-year-old was regarded as one of the best defenders in the league during his time at Leicester City. Despite his underwhelming performances for Manchester United, the England international remains a reliable defender. So he could be a key player for West Ham if he manages to regain his confidence and sharpness.
A move away from the limelight would be ideal for the 30-year-old right now, and the impending transfer to West Ham could help him regain his peak form. West Ham will be competing in the UEFA Europa League next season, and they need quality players at their disposal. And after signing Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, they might sign Maguire next after agreeing personal terms in principle.
Maguire could be a leader at the back for them, and the £30 million move could look like a bargain if he manages to make an immediate impact. The Hammers had a disappointing 2022/23 Premier League campaign, and they will look to make amends this time around.

They have already sanctioned the departure of Declan Rice, and it will be interesting to see if they can bring in the right reinforcements before the window closes. Maguire will be determined to showcase his qualities in the Premier League this season after his disappointing spell at Manchester United. And his hunger to succeed will be an added bonus for West Ham.
