Manchester United contemplating Robby McCrorie swoop

Manchester United lead race to sign Manuel Ugarte.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, with Erik ten Hag eyes depth in the position.

According to Herald Scotland, Manchester United are vying for Robby McCrorie to join them and possibly assume the role of Andre Onana’s deputy. There have been lots of movement in the goalkeeping department at Old Trafford, and Erik ten Hag might see the 25-year-old as the ideal choice to play second fiddle.

Plenty of goalkeeping movements are happening, with Manchester United at the centre of this saga. Erik ten Hag sought a revamp of the goalkeeping department, with only Tom Heaton surviving the ordeal.

David de Gea departed under acrimonious circumstances, while Jack Butland moved on to Rangers to become their first-choice stopper. Butland’s arrival at Ibrox has then put their current second-choice keeper, Robby McCrorie’s future under a cloud despite the 25-year-old recently signing a new deal.

McCrorie now has the attention of Manchester United to potentially replace Butland and possibly play deputy to summer arrival Andre Onana. The latter is the clear first choice, but Ten Hag faces depth problems in the department.

Academy star Matej Kovar is set to join Bayer Leverkusen, leaving the injured Heaton as their only other shot-stopper. There are also talks about Radek Vitek going, with the 19-year-old featuring against Wrexham in pre-season.

Former target Zion Suzuki has decided to join Belgian side Sint-Truiden, thus snubbing the advances of Manchester United. That decision from the Japanese goalkeeper has pressured ten Hag and the club to find a solution.

The other remaining keeper, Dean Henderson, continues to stay linked with Nottingham Forest, and the move could go through before the transfer deadline. Hence, Manchester United have turned their attention towards the Rangers star.

McCrorie has decent experience in the Scottish Premiership but has played a subdued role in the last few years. The 25-year-old goalkeeper did not take the arrival of Butland favourably and would like to move on. Other clubs like Hull and Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa are also keen on the Rangers star, with a decision imminent.

He could add some quality depth behind Onana in this Manchester United side but will have to play lesser games, restricted to cup ties, particularly in the Carabao Cup. Hence, McCrorie will have to decide to take up such a role at Old Trafford or join another team where he can play regularly.
