Real Madrid and Yassine Bounou are reportedly in contact over a possible summer move, with Sevilla valuing him at €20 million.
According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Yassine Bounou is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for a short-term replacement for Thibaut Courtois after the Belgian international picked up a knee injury. And they have already opened talks with the Moroccan goalkeeper, with Sevilla valuing him at €20 million.
Yassine Bounou failed to find a stable footing for much of his professional career after graduating from Wydad AC Academy. The move to Atletico Madrid over a decade ago did not work out. And the 32-year-old only managed to rise to prominence after joining Sevilla on loan from Girona in September 2019.
The Moroccan international was the catalyst in Sevilla’s UEFA Europa League triumph in 2019/20. So it was hardly surprising that the Andalusian club signed Bono permanently three years ago. And he has come leaps and bounds since then, helping Moroccan script history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup while winning another Europa League last season.
Bono has made 140 appearances thus far for Sevilla, keeping 58 clean sheets. And the 32-year-old has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs with his progress in the last four seasons. Real Madrid might be his next destination after Thibaut Courtois sustained a nasty injury in training this week.
The Belgian goalkeeper has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. And he will not be in action for most of the 2023/24 season. So it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a goalkeeper this summer, with several candidates emerging as options to replace Courtois. Reports from England have claimed that David de Gea is close to joining Real Madrid. But Yassine Bounou is also an option.
The report by Foot Mercato has claimed that the Moroccan international is the favourite to replace Courtois this summer. And the Merengues have already initiated talks with Bono’s entourage over a possible summer move. Meanwhile, Sevilla will demand €20 million to part ways with the 32-year-old.

The Europa League winner is already well-settled in La Liga and should hit the ground running. And at €20 million, he should be a value-for-money signing by Real Madrid. So it will be interesting to see if Bono moves across La Liga by joining Real Madrid this summer.
