Manchester United have reportedly agreed on a deal to sell Matej Kovar to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
A report from 90min claims that Manchester United have agreed to sanction the departure of Matej Kovar this summer. The 23-year-old Czech goalkeeper is unlikely to get regular game time at Old Trafford, and it makes sense for him to leave the club permanently. He will join Bayer Leverkusen soon.
The player has already undergone his medical with the Bundesliga club, and the report adds that Manchester United have inserted a buyback clause in his contract. The 23-year-old was highly rated around Europe, with reports also linking him with Aston Villa. And he will be hoping to establish himself as a key player for Leverkusen in the coming seasons.
If he manages to impress over the next few seasons, Manchester United will always have the option to bring him back to the club. The Red Devils recently signed Andre Onana as a replacement for David de Gea. Dean Henderson is expected to leave the club as well and the Red Devils are thought to be looking at goalkeeping reinforcements.
A move to the Bundesliga will be ideal for Kovar, who has been at Manchester United since the age of 17. The talented young goalkeeper joined the Red Devils in 2018, and he has had loan spells at clubs like Swindon Town, Burton Albion and Sparta Prague.
The opportunity to play regular football for a reputed Bundesliga club like Bayer Leverkusen will be an exciting option for the player. But it remains to be seen whether he can live up to the expectations at the German club.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will have to bring in a quality replacement for Henderson if the 26-year-old ends up leaving the club. He is in a similar situation to that of Kovar, and the English goalkeeper needs to play regularly at this stage of his career.

He has had fruitful loan spells at clubs like Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest. It remains to be seen whether he can secure a permanent exit from Old Trafford in the next few days. Henderson has the ability to develop into a reliable Premier League goalkeeper, and he could be an asset for most English clubs.
