Manchester United are interested in Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba

According to The Manchester Evening News, Premier League giants Manchester United are interested in the services of Edmond Tapsoba in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old is under contract at the BayArena until 2026 and has been linked with an exit this summer. Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with the centre-back this summer but are yet to make their move. They have now assigned Mickey Van de Ven and it remains to be seen if a renewed approach will be made for Tapsoba.

The Red Devils have had an exciting window so far bringing in Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount but are still in need of a couple of additions. With former skipper Harry Maguire on his way to West Ham United, a new defender is needed and Tapsoba is now on the radar.

A giant of a player, the Burkina Faso international is a modern-day centre-back who can not just be physical but also bring his technical ability into play. Adding him to a roster that already contains Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof should give Erik ten Hag strength in depth.

With UEFA Champions League back on the table, a move to Old Trafford should be a tempting one for Tapsoba. While he is unlikely to be initially thrust into the first XI, it should add more competition to a roster that has taken its spots for granted inr recent years.

Tapsoba isn’t the only centre-back on Manchester United’s radar. The Red Devils are also eyeing Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard and OGC Nice ace Jean Clair Todibo. While contact has already been made for Todibo, it remains to be seen who the club’s hierarchy will opt to move for in the final weeks of the window.

Leverkusen are seeking at least £43.3 million for the 24-year-old, making him potentially the costliest of the options on the table. While his talent is undeniable, Todibo is an equally talented yet potentially cheaper option while Pavard will add experience and a winning mentality from the get-go.
