Arsenal scheduling medical to finalise David Raya transfer

Arsenal are closing in on a £30 million  deal to sign David Raya from Brentford, with the Gunners looking to schedule a medical.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are now putting the final touches on a deal to sign David Raya. The 27-year-old Spanish international will cost £30 million, and the player will finalise his move to the North London club soon. The Gunners are scheduling a medical for this week.

Arsenal have been linked with the 27-year-old over the last few days, and they will be looking to get the deal across the line soon and focus on the new season which begins later this week. The Gunners have been quite active in the transfer market so far, and they have already signed the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.

The North Londoners are looking to put together a formidable squad capable of challenging for major trophies, and these signings will certainly stand them in good stead. Raya will only add to the quality at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.

Arsenal came close to winning the Premier League title last season. But they were overtaken by Manchester City right at the end. The lack of depth in their squad resulted in the second-place finish, and the Gunners will be hoping to go all the way this time around.

Raya has proven himself to be a reliable performer in the Premier League, and he should be able to make an immediate impact at Arsenal. The Spaniard is unlikely to move to the Emirates as a backup keeper. So it is fair to assume that he could be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.

Arsenal also have Aaron Ramsdale in the first-team squad, and the English goalkeeper was quite impressive for them last season. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to the development and adjusts as an understudy to the Spanish international if Arteta takes that decision. Nonetheless, the move for Raya is close, with Arsenal looking for a medical for this week.

Ramsdale will be hoping to play regular first-team football, especially with the European Championships coming up next summer. Mikel Arteta will have to manage the game time of both goalkeepers diligently in order to preserve the harmony of the dressing room. Meanwhile, Raya has been an indispensable asset for Brentford, and they have replaced him with Mark Flekken.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old goalkeeper is at the peak of his powers, and he will look to establish himself as one of the best in Europe in his position over the next few seasons. He will be looking forward to competing in the Champions League with Arsenal while hoping to make his mark at the highest level.
