Tottenham Hotspur are set to make their move for Porto star Mehdi Taremi

According to the Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Sport Witness), Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to secure the services of Porto striker Mehdi Taremi in the ongoing summer transfer window.

It has been a busy window for Spurs with several players and a new manager coming in. Nevertheless, despite the new start, the outstanding Tottenham transfer saga of the summer surrounds Harry Kane.

The English skipper is the lynchpin of the Spurs attack but is currently in the final year of his contract at the N17. Kane has shown little indication of his readiness to pen a new deal and is privy to interest from several top clubs, mainly Bayern Munich.

The German champions have now had three bids turned down as Daniel Levy digs in his heels to keep his star man. It is a dangerous game as Spurs risk losing the 30-year-old for free in a year’s time while also having to navigate Ange Postecoglou’s debut campaign in London with a potentially unhappy striker leading the line.

It thus makes sense that Tottenham are in for a striker and Porto’s Taremi appears to be that man. The Iranian international has been identified as a potential replacement for Kane and negotiations between the two clubs have been taking place behind the scenes.

The Liga Portugal giants are seeking €30m for the 31-year-old, an amount that exceeds Tottenham’s valuation of €24m. With just weeks to go before the window slams shut, Tottenham will do well to add another attacker to their roster, regardless of Kane’s future.

The Spurs ace has not just displayed the consistent ability to find the back of the net but has also improved his creativity in recent times. Taremi excels on both fronts as well and is capable of both scoring and creating goals. After all, the veteran scored 31 goals and made 14 assists in 55 appearances last season.

Italian side Inter Milan are also in the fray for Taremi and can offer him the chance to play in the UEFA Champions League. Tottenham aspire to return to the fold next season and a lot could come down to how well the club can sell their vision to the Iranian star.
