Arsenal winger Marquinhos has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Nantes closing in on signing him.

Marquinhos is unlikely to get regular game time at Arsenal in the upcoming season. So it makes sense for the 20-year-old winger to leave in search of ample game time. And a report from Ouest France has claimed that Nantes are hoping to secure his services.

The Ligue 1 outfit are now close to finalising an agreement with the Premier League club for the 20-year-old winger. Marquinhos scored six goals and picked up four assists across all competitions last season. But most of those were in youth games for Arsenal. The winger made just one appearance in the Premier League for them.

He will be hoping to play at the highest level on a more regular basis next season, and Nantes could provide him with that opportunity. The French outfit are in need of attacking reinforcements, and the Brazilian has emerged as a target for them.

Arsenal already have players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli at their disposal. They will not be able to offer the South American enough playing experience. So it is ideal for both parties to go separate ways.

Arsenal are on the up, and they will be hoping to compete for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles. They need established players in order to match up to Manchester City, and Marquinhos is still very much a project in need of developing.

The 20-year-old is a prodigious talent with a bright future ahead of him, and he could develop into a quality winger in the near future. However, he is not ready to start for Arsenal just yet and should look to continue his development with regular football at another club.

He will be able to gain some valuable first-team experience at Nantes without being under too much pressure and it could accelerate his development. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been quite active during the summer transfer window, and they have already pulled off the signing of Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. It remains to be seen whether they can finish the summer transfer window with a versatile attacker.
