AS Monaco had submitted a bid for the services of 22-year-old Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun but it has been rejected by the Gunners.
According to The Athletic, AS Monaco are keen on having Folarin Balogun in their ranks and submitted an official bid for the 22-year-old. But, it has been turned down by Arsenal.
The French club have been interested in the American international for a while now. But, they were not really making moves. However, things changed when their striker Breel Embolo sustained an anterior cruciate ligament rupture.
Embolo is all set to be ruled out for several months. As a result, the French club wants to sign the 22-year-old. They had made an opening verbal proposal for the Gunners striker last week but it was rejected.
Monaco followed it up with an official bid for the Balogun but even that has been turned down by the English club. Despite that, the French club are expected to continue their pursuit and they might make another offer for his services. Their sporting director, Thiago Scuro has a great relationship with his opposite number at Arsenal and that could help their cause.
Balogun has been a part of Arsenal since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club and was promoted to their first team last summer. While he made it to their first team, the 22-year-old was unlikely to get much game time.
As a result, he was sent out on loan to Stade Reims. The American international had an impressive loan spell at the Fench club as he ended up scoring 21 Ligue 1 goals in 37 outings. The 22-year-old has returned to his parent club but his future has been uncertain of late. And, there is a lot of interest in his services.
While he still has two years left on his deal, the Arsenal graduate could be on his way out in the ongoing transfer window. Meanwhile, Inter Milan are also keen on his services. Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku’s departure has forced them to look for a new number nine and the 22-year-old is one of the names on their list.
