Tottenham Hotspur are ready to part ways with their 22-year-old defender Djed Spence in the ongoing transfer window.
According to Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to cash in on Djed Spence. The 22-year-old full-back is surplus to requirements, and they are ready to offload him in the ongoing transfer window.
Spence came through the ranks at Fulham before joining Middlesbrough, where he showed a lot of promise. His impressive performances resulted in a move to Spurs in a £20 million deal in the summer of 2022.
The 22-year-old could only feature in a total of six matches for their first team over a period of six months before being loaned out to Rennes. He joined the French club in the winter of 2023 for a short-term loan and ended up featuring in a total of 10 matches.
The English wide man has now returned to his parent club, Tottenham. While he did put in some impressive performances while out on loan, he is unlikely to get much game time at the London club next season.
As a result, they are ready to negotiate Spence’s departure just a year after signing. There is a lot of interest in the 22-year-old full-back services. And despite having four years left on his deal, he is expected to be on the move.
Spurs already have a huge first-team squad, and they are planning to sign multiple players before the end of the transfer window. The London club will soon complete the acquisition of Micky van de Ven and Alejo Veliz.
Their arrival will leave Ange Postecoglou with a squad of more than 35 first-team players. As a result, Tottenham are looking to offload quite a few players. They are ready to negotiate the departures of Hugo Lloris, Tanguy Ndombele, Joe Rodon and Djed Spence. Even Davinson Sanchez and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be subject to a move elsewhere. But it will depend on the offer.
Spurs’ priority throughout the window has been on signing new defenders. They have already sealed an agreement for the services of van de Ven. The Dutchman is expected to undergo his medical today. Despite having agreed a deal for the 22-year-old, Postecoglou is still keen on signing another centre-back.
