Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia this summer.

A report from Football Transfers claims that Arsenal are lining up a summer move for Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia. They have been linked with a move for the Argentine playmaker in the past as well.

The Gunners currently have Martin Odegaard as their prime source of creativity, and Mikel Arteta needs to add more depth to the side. Buendia has been a key player for Aston Villa since joining the club in a £33 million deal, and he has proven his quality in the Premier League.

He could prove to be a superb addition to the Arsenal midfield if the Gunners can agree on a deal. Aston Villa will be competing in Europe next season, and they will be hoping to put together a formidable squad. Selling a key player like Buendia might not be on their agenda.

Aston Villa were overly dependent on Ollie Watkins in the attack last season, and Unai Emery seems to have made it his priority to improve the attack this summer. Selling Buendia will leave a creative void in the side, and the Spanish manager is unlikely to sanction his departure easily.

It is fair to assume that Arsenal will have to offer a premium in order to convince the West Midlands club to sell their star midfielder. As far as Buendia is concerned, the Argentine is likely to be tempted to join a big club like Arsenal.

The Gunners will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and they are likely to push for the league title as well. Arsenal fell short of the title last season and will be hoping to go all the way this time around.

They need a deeper squad in order to do well across multiple competitions, and signing a quality alternative to Odegaard could prove to be a wise decision. The Norwegian international cannot be expected to perform at a high level every week. So Arteta will have to shuffle his options in order to keep the players fresh.

Both Buendia and Odegaard are likely to get ample game time, and they could be important players for Arsenal. The Aston Villa star is capable of operating as a winger as well as a central attacking midfielder. His vision, technical ability and flair in the final third could help the Gunners open up deep defences and create opportunities for his teammates.

Arsenal have already signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea earlier this summer, and the German international is likely to operate in multiple positions. It will be interesting to see how Arteta accommodates Buendia on his side if the Argentine playmaker joins them from Aston Villa in the next few weeks.
