Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to lodge a fresh bid for €22 million-rated Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson.

According to a report from Turkish outlet Hurriyet, Tottenham have apparently had a formal offer turned down for Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson. The total package of the opening bid was €22 million, including €5 million, with the Turkish giants demanding €22 million upfront.

The report adds that the Lilywhites are “determined” to sign the Danish stopper and “expected to knock on Galatasaray’s door with a new offer in the coming days.” Spurs have spent around £120 million to bring in the likes of James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon on permanent deals, and they are far from finished yet.

Clement Lenglet’s loan has expired, and Davinson Sanchez is being linked with a move elsewhere. So Ange Postecoglou has been looking all summer for a new defender to partner with Cristian Romero at the heart of the defence.

As such, the Lilywhites are closing in on a blockbuster move for Micky van de Ven as one of their marquee signings of the summer. Personal terms have been agreed upon, while a £43 million agreement with Wolfsburg has been reached to sign the highly-rated Dutchman, according to The Athletic.

Van de Ven would no doubt go into Postecoglou’s starting XI right away. But Tottenham will probably need more than one new centre-back to fix their defensive issues from last season. They conceded 63 goals in the Premier League last season, which was the third-worst record outside the relegation zone.

Therefore, their attention has since turned to long-term target Galatasaray defender Nelsson after they wrap up the Van de Ven deal. Reports from Turkey earlier this month claimed that Spurs had seen a part-exchange offer of €15 million plus Davinson Sanchez for the Galatasaray centre-back rejected.

Nelsson is thought to be keen on a move to Tottenham. The 24-year-old made 35 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray last season as they went on to lift the Turkish League title. In the process, he helped his team keep 17 clean sheets and score two goals.

Nelsson’s performances have caught the attention of several European clubs, including Tottenham. The reigning Turkish champions are looking to offload one of Nicolo Zaniolo and Nelsson to resolve their Financial Fair Play issues, but won’t give any discounts on their asking price for either.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, who has already provisionally agreed personal terms with Crystal Palace. But now Tottenham are trying to hijack the deal, which indicates a second centre-back purchase is high on Postecoglou’s priority list between now and the end of the window.
