Chelsea retain Amadou Onana interest

Chelsea are looking to bring in midfield reinforcements before the new season starts and have identified Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as a target.

According to a report from Evening Standard, Amadou Onana is on the transfer wishlist at Chelsea along with the likes of Edson Alvarez and Tyler Adams. The Blues have also set their sights on Leandro Paredes.

Chelsea have recently sanctioned the departure of N’Golo Kante, and they will need to replace him adequately. Onana was a key player for Everton last season after joining them in a £33 million deal, and he could be an important addition to the Chelsea midfield.

The Blues will need to find a quality partner for Enzo Fernandez, and the 21-year-old Belgian certainly fits the profile. He is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge next season.

Chelsea certainly have the financial resources to get the deal done. But it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a fee with Everton. The Toffees will not want to lose a key player this summer. So they are likely to demand a premium if Chelsea come calling, much more than the £33 million they paid to acquire him last summer.

The Belgian has a contract with Everton until the summer of 2027. The Blues have been that desperate to sign the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. But they have not been able to agree a deal for the 21-year-old. Brighton value the player close to £100 million, and Chelsea have already failed with multiple offers.

Apparently, the Blues submitted an offer of around £80 million recently. It seems that Chelsea are now pursuing other options after failing to secure an agreement with Brighton. And they have also set their sights on Tyler Adams, Edson Alvarez, and Leandro Paredes.

It is fair to assume that Onana is likely to cost less than Caicedo. The 21-year-old is immensely talented, and someone like Mauricio Pochettino could help him develop further and fulfil his immense potential.

Chelsea will be looking to bounce back strongly next season, and they need to plug the gaps in their squad in order to do well. The midfield is clearly an area that is in need of strengthening. Apart from Kante, Chelsea have sanctioned the departure of Mateo Kovacic as well.
