Alejo Veliz agrees long-term contract with Tottenham

Rosario Central star Alejo Veliz has agreed a long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur

According to Uriel Lugt on Twitter, Rosario Central star Alejo Veliz has agreed to join Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on a long-term deal this summer.

The 19-year-old came through the ranks at MCSD GoDeken and Club UDC before joining Rosario Central in 2019. He made his first team bow for the club in 2021 and has since gone from strength to strength.

The Argentine star has made 62 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and assisting two more. A full international for the Argentine Under 20 squad, Veliz is currently on the right track to make a name for himself at the top level.

An imposing figure upfront, the youngster could be signed for a rather reasonable £12 million. This represents excellent value for Veliz should he go on to fulfill his potential.

As things stand, Tottenham and Veliz have already agreed on personal terms. And a long-term deal is in the works. However, Rosario are yet to sanction an exit this summer and remains keen to retain the youngster until the January transfer window.

The upcoming weeks are important as Tottenham work to get the deal over the line. Daniel Levy is a skilled negotiator. But he could struggle to undermine Rosario’s resolve to retain the 19-year-old goalscorer.

A new striker is on Tottenham’s wishlist amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of Harry Kane at N17. While landing Veliz would help future-proof the role upfront, it is debatable if the youngster is ready to take on a starring role just yet.

A solid finisher who is capable of scoring goals from both inside and outside the box, Veliz has the making of a serial goalscorer who can thrive at the top level for years to come. Should Tottenham land him this summer, they could very well secure the services of one of South America’s most promising talents for a song.

Veliz is also good in the air and is a force to be reckoned with when dealing with aerial balls. A solid striker who can hold the ball up front, it remains to be seen if Tottenham and Rosario can work out an agreement in the coming weeks.
