Liverpool establish contact to sign Chelsea target Moises Caicedo

Liverpool have reportedly entered the race to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo, a target for Chelsea.

A report from Football Insider claims that Chelsea are keen on signing Moises Caicedo. But they will now face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Caicedo is valued at £100 million, and it will be interesting to see if the two English clubs are prepared to pay that kind of money for him. Chelsea have recently had an £80 million offer turned down for the Ecuadorian midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to return with an improved offer soon.

Caicedo was linked with a move away from Brighton during the January transfer window as well. But the Seagulls managed to hold on to him and convinced him to sign a new long-term contract. The player will be desperate to move on this summer and it remains to be seen where he ends up.

He will want to compete at the highest level, and the opportunity to join clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea will be hard to turn down. Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the country and they will need to replace a key player in Fabinho.

The Brazilian has completed a move to Saudi Arabia, and Liverpool need a quality defensive midfielder. Caicedo is certainly one of the best in his position in the Premier League and he would be a superb long-term addition. Similarly, Chelsea have parted ways with club legend N’Golo Kante, and they will have to replace him adequately.

Both clubs would represent an exciting move for the 21-year-old midfielder, and it remains to be seen where he ends up. Chelsea won’t be competing in the UEFA Champions League next year after finishing 12th in the league table. On the other hand, Liverpool will compete in the Europa League after missing out on a top-four finish.

It remains to be seen whether the midfielder is tempted to work with Mauricio Pochettino or Jurgen Klopp this summer. The reported £100 million asking price from Brighton seems quite steep and the Premier League side might have to lower their expectations in order for the move to go through.
