Liverpool have contacted Brazilian club Fluminense over a potential deal for their 22-year-old defensive midfielder Andre.
According to Melissa Reddy, Liverpool are desperate to sign a new defensive midfielder before the start of next season. The Merseyside club are considering signing 22-year-old Brazil international Andre and have officially contacted Fluminense over a potential deal for the midfielder.
The new season starts in less than two weeks, and Liverpool are yet to complete their midfielder overhaul. Ever since the transfer window started, the Merseyside club have been pushing to sign new midfielders. They have already acquired Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai but there is still a lot of work to be done.
Both the players are attacking in nature, and the Reds are in desperate need of a new defensive-minded midfielder. The departure of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League has left a huge void in the centre of the park and they are keen on filling it as soon as possible.
Jurgen Klopp’s team have been pushing for the signatures of Romeo Lavia for a while now. But, they haven’t managed to strike a deal with Southampton. They recently placed a second bid which has been rejected by the Saints. And, as a result, they have shifted their attention towards Andre.
While they might still push for the 19-year-old former Manchester City midfielder, their priority at this point in time is to sign the Brazil international. The 22-year-old has shown great promise and has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons. And, he has been on their radar for a while now.
He has all the qualities to fit into the German manager’s system and could be a great acquisition for the present as well as the future. But, Liverpool will have to act fast to land him at the club because the Brazilian transfer window ends on August 2.
While the Reds could still sign him after the end of the Brazilian window, Fluminense won’t have the chance to secure a replacement which would make a potential deal very difficult. The Reds have already established contacts with the Brazilian club and it will be interesting to see if they follow it up with an official bid in the near future.
