Arsenal in transfer tussle to sign Josip Sutalo

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old Dinamo Zagreb defender Josip Sutalo this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Arsenal are hoping to sign Josip Sutalo this summer, and they will face competition from the Italian club Fiorentina.

Apparently, La Viola are willing to offer around €15 million for the defender. But Dinamo Zagreb are unlikely to sanction his departure below an offer of around €25 million. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal are willing to come forward with a concrete proposal to sign the 23-year-old defender in the coming weeks.

The Gunners have been quite active in the transfer market this summer, and they have already pulled off the signing of Jurrien Timber from Ajax. It seems that Mikel Arteta wants to improve his defensive unit further, and it remains to be seen whether they can secure the services of the 23-year-old.

Sutalo is highly rated around Europe, and he has the potential to develop into a quality defender for Arsenal. The Gunners will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, and they will be up against top-class attackers on a weekly basis. It is no surprise that they are looking to tighten up at the back.

Defensive vulnerabilities resulted in a second-place finish for Arsenal last season. They managed to lead the Premier League table for most of the season. But Manchester City won the title eventually because of Arsenal’s defensive problems towards the end of the season.

The likes of Timber and Sutalo will certainly improve Arsenal immensely, and both players have the potential to develop into top-class defenders. Arteta has done well to nurture talented young players since taking over at Arsenal, and he could help the 23-year-old defender fulfil his tremendous potential.

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the opportunity to join them will be an attractive option for the player. They are likely to be a more appealing prospect for the player as compared to Fiorentina. Arsenal certainly have the financial muscle to get the deal across the line and the €25 million fee could look like a bargain in the long run.
