Alphonso Davies agrees to join Real Madrid in 2024

Real Madrid might have edged closer Alphonso Davies from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich, with the 22-year-old ready to join them.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Alphonso Davies remains the subject of interest from Real Madrid. And the 22-year-old full-back is ready to join Los Blancos, giving the green light to Florentino Perez. But a deal will likely materialise in the 2024 summer transfer window instead of this year.

Alphonso Davies has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps. That in itself is a marvel, considering he arrived at the Allianz Arena as a budding winger. But the Canadian international has remodelled himself to become a solid left-back.

The 22-year-old has an abundance of pace, which helps him make superb recovery runs. And despite a few fitness issues last season, he contributed to 11 goals, finding the back of the net thrice while providing eight assists. But Davies’s time at Bayern Munich might be drawing to a close, with Real Madrid keen on signing him.

The young full-back has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. And his ability to contribute handily in the final third has made him an attractive prospect for Los Blancos. So while Fran Garcia has bolstered Carlo Ancelotti’s left-back options, Real Madrid might still pursue Davies in the near future.

Ferland Mendy faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid and will unlikely start the 2023/24 season as the first-choice left-back. And the Merengues want to replace the French defender with Davies as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old has been considering a move to Real Madrid for some time now.

The Canadian international has now given the green light to Florentino Perez, thus putting in motion a possible deal. Davies’s decision has come as a shot in the arm for Real Madrid. But a move this year might not be possible, with the 2024 summer transfer window being the likeliest period for the transfer to materialise.

Meanwhile, despite Davies’s decision, getting Bayern Munich to part ways with him will be a big challenge for Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see if the Bundesliga champions accept the young full-back’s departure.
