Newly-promoted Premier League club Sheffield United are reportedly keen on signing 24-year-old Arsenal defender Auston Trusty this summer.

Auston Trusty is a target for Sheffield United, and it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a deal with Arsenal. According to Daily Mail, the two clubs are currently locked in talks regarding a summer transfer.

The American international defender was on loan at Birmingham City last season and he was a key player for them in the Championship. He could be an impressive acquisition for Sheffield United, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can secure an agreement.

Trusty is unlikely to get regular game time at Arsenal and it makes sense for him to move on in search of regular playing time. Sheffield United could provide him with the opportunity to play regularly next season, and the move would be ideal for all parties.

Arsenal recently signed Jurrien Timber from Ajax, and the 24-year-old American will struggle for regular game time. He will fall further down the pecking order. Arsenal came close to winning the league title last season and they will be hoping to go all the way this time around.

Although Trusty has proven himself to be a reliable player for Birmingham City, he is certainly not good enough to start on a weekly basis for a club like Arsenal. The Gunners need players with better quality and it makes sense for them to cash in on him.

It remains to be seen whether Sheffield United are prepared to offer a reasonable price for the 24-year-old defender. Trusty showed last season that he certainly could enough to be a key player for a Championship club, and he will look to establish himself as an important member of the Sheffield United starting lineup if the deal goes through.

The 24-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and it would be ideal for him to move on from Arsenal if the Gunners are unwilling to provide him with the platform he needs.

The American international will have plenty of opportunities to join a Premier League club in the future if he manages to continue his development and impress in the Championship over the next few seasons. Meanwhile, Arsenal are keen on offloading fringe player, with Matt Turner also linked with a summer exit.
