Arsenal are keen on acquiring the services of 25-year-old
According to a report by 90min, Arsenal are looking to sign a world-class goalkeeper in the ongoing transfer window. Their manager Mikel Arteta is keen on having someone who can challenge Aaron Ramsdale for a place in the starting XI. And, Robert Sanchez is one of the names on his list.
Ramsdale has done a great job since joining the Gunners and he will undoubtedly be their number one heading into next season. However, Arteta believes having competition for places will bring the best out of him. As a result, he is pondering over a move for the 25-year-old Brighton goalkeeper.
The Gunners’ priority is to sign David Raya from Brentford. The Spanish international has entered the final year of his contract with the Bees and there is a lot of interest in his services. But, Brentford’s asking price of £40 million is proving to be a big hurdle.
Arsenal are not ready to pay such a big fee for someone who could be available for free next summer. As a result, they have also placed an enquiry about the services of Sanchez. The 25-year-old might have two years left on his deal with Brighton but he will surely be a cheaper option than Raya.
He has come up the ranks at Brighton and has managed to establish himself as their number one. The Spanish international might not have the same numbers as Raya but he has proved his mettle in the Premier League. And, could surely help Arsenal.
While the Gunners have been in talks to sign the 25-year-old and they have even enquired about his services, they are not the only ones interested in him. Even Chelsea have him on their radar. The Blues recently parted ways with Édouard Mendy and are now looking to sign another goalkeeper.
Kepa Arrizabalaga is expected to start next season as the preferred choice in goal for the Blues. But, his performances over the years have been inconsistent and they are keen on signing someone who can provide competition to the 28-year-old. With Arsenal and Chelsea both interested, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
