Liverpool have already made a move to sign Keito Nakamura but are still short of LASK’s €11 million asking price for the forward.

According to Foot Mercato, LASK are open to selling Keito Nakamura, but that would require a record sum from suitors. Liverpool are mentioned as a possible destination for the 22-year-old forward. But their offer has proved short of the Austrian side’s asking price.

Liverpool are about to get very active in the summer transfer window, as Jurgen Klopp places a sense of urgency on the club to act fast. The Reds need to strengthen several key positions in their squad, particularly the centre of midfield.

Jordan Henderson is moving to Al Ettifaq, while Fabinho seems close to joining Al Ittihad. Those departures have left a huge void, with Klopp actively looking at multiple midfield options to strengthen his squad. Romeo Lavia remains the primary target, as Liverpool have already seen a bid rejected by Southampton.

Others are on the list, as Klopp would also want a new centre-back before he can shut down the summer business. The attacking zones are one area that the manager does not seem to bother. Liverpool are well stocked with forwards and wingers, but Klopp could still add some depth in the striker position.

Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota are the only centre-forwards on the side, although Luis Diaz can play there if needed. There was tremendous Saudi Arabian interest in the latter. But Liverpool intend to block any move for the Colombian to the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Klopp could search for a decent player to add depth to the position. Liverpool have been interested in Keito Nakamura since the window opened and have already made their first approach. Lille are also considered strong contenders for the 22-year-old forward, but the Reds may have the edge.

Liverpool’s initial offer was for a reported €7 million with the addition of a loan. The question remains whether the Reds were to send the 22-year-old forward back to LASK or some other player. However, the Austrian club want a record sum to sell the Japanese forward, as they demand €11 million.

Liverpool might have been short of that valuation, but they are not far from reaching an agreement if they continue negotiations. Nakamura might view Liverpool as a big move in his career, and he will add some required depth considering the team will play in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Lille could have the upper hand in negotiations, as they could offer guaranteed playing time next season. They could allow the 22-year-old a platform to build on, something he would struggle to find at Liverpool.

Liverpool could try again for the forward; if they persist, an agreement does not seem too far away. However, Lille can play a massive role in the competition, as the French club could offer regular first-team football to the 22-year-old forward, which may change the course of the Japanese forward.
