Franck Kessie has been linked with a move away from Barcelona this summer, with Aston Villa and Liverpool keen on signing him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Aston Villa have now joined the race to sign Franck Kessie. The 26-year-old Barcelona midfielder is also a target Liverpool, and he wants to join a ‘Big Six’ club this summer.

Franck Kessie joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer, but he struggled for regular game time at the Spanish club. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career. Moving to the Premier League would be ideal for the 26-year-old midfielder, especially if clubs like Aston Villa and Liverpool are prepared to provide him with gametime assurances.

Aston Villa have already signed Youri Tielemans earlier on in the window, and they are looking to bring in some physicality and defensive cover to the side now. Kessie could prove to be a quality acquisition for the West Midlands club, and he would certainly help them improve next season.

Unai Emery is looking to put together a formidable squad capable of challenging for trophies. And signing a quality midfielder like Kessie could prove to be a wise decision. Aston Villa will compete in Europe next season, and the opportunity to play for them could be an attractive option for the Barcelona midfielder.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to part ways with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the next few days. They will have to replace both players adequately, and Kessie would be a useful acquisition.

He will add physicality and defensive cover to the Liverpool midfield. Working under a world-class coach like Jurgen Klopp will be an added incentive for the midfielder. Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and if they can give him ample game time, the player is likely to be tempted to join them.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona are prepared to sanction his departure this summer. The Catalan giants need to bring in midfield reinforcements themselves and they might not want to weaken the squad.

Barcelona are going through financial difficulties, and they will not be able to spend big money on signings this summer. If Kessie leaves the club, they will have to bring in an alternative and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
