Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their interest in Manchester United star Harry Maguire

According to Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signature of Manchester United star Harry Maguire as they prepare to ramp up their efforts to land the veteran defender.

The English international captured the attention of fans during his sting at Leicester City. This saw him join the Red Devils in a record-breaking €85 million deal in the summer of 2019.

Since then, Maguire has made 175 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring seven times and assisting another five. While he has had standout moments in red, they have been few and far between and have seen him swiftly fall down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman is an advocate of playing out from the back and it is a trait that Maguire struggles with. He failed to carry the ball forward with authority and has the propensity to make poor decisions when out of position. This more often than not makes him a liability to the Red Devils backline.

Maguire was recently stripped of his captaincy and is behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the centre-back roster. With Victor Lindelof also contending, it could be high time that the 30-year-old seek his fortunes elsewhere.

One team that could offer him an escape route from Old Trafford is Tottenham. The North Londoners under Ange Popstecoglou are putting together a new identity and a squad revamp is ongoing. Postecoglou has made it known that he is keen on adding a centre-back to his roster but the club are yet to sign one this summer.

The likes of Edmond Tapsoba and Micky Van de Ven have been heavily linked but neither player has yet arrived at the N17. Signing Maguire will give them a more experienced star well acquainted with the Premier League style. He has also shown leadership at the back in the past, something Tottenham sorely lacked last season.

Maguire’s reputation has taken a beating since joining Old Trafford but he still has quite a few years left in him at the top level. Moving to London to pursue a new challenge and rebuild his career is something he should be looking at this summer.

He is better off resurrecting his career elsewhere rather than staying on as a substitute at Old Trafford. Should the transfer go through, it should prove to be a win-win for all parties involved.

I don’t think Levy has anything good to offer Tottenham supporters else, he would not even think of signing Maguire. If he will sign Mavuire then he shouldn’t sign any Central defender.
