Paris Saint-Germain are set to demand €70 million from Liverpool and Atletico Madrid for Marco Verratti, which complicates any move for the Italian.
According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool learned the asking price for Marco Verratti as the two clubs remain interested in the Italian midfielder. Paris Saint-Germain are set to demand €70 million for their most experienced player, which could scupper any chances of a move.
Two clubs, mindful of their expenditure, have been looking to sign a new central midfielder amid sales of their experienced stars. Those sides are Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, who have let go few of their players.
Liverpool have allowed experienced duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to join Saudi Arabian clubs and are now in the market for new midfielders. Romeo Lavia remains a target, and as per recent reports, they are only willing to pay €30 million for the Southampton star.
At that price, Southampton are not about to sell their star midfielder, as they hold out for almost double that. Liverpool have shown an interest in Marco Verratti over the last few weeks. However, Jurgen Klopp knows the complex nature of signing the 30-year-old Ligue 1 midfielder.
Atletico Madrid also want Verratti as a possible option to shore up their midfield. They have sold Geoffrey Kondogbia and a few others to raise some cash, but nowhere near what PSG is asking for the 30-year-old.
Atletico have considered Pierre-Emile Hojberg, but the Danish star could move if Tottenham secures a replacement. The North Londoners have Franck Kessie on their list, but any move seems far from materialising.
Paris Saint-Germain have slapped a €70 million price tag on Verratti, which may rule both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid out of the race. The two clubs won’t pay anywhere close to that sum for a midfielder in his 30s and may look at other options.
Verratti became PSG’s second-highest appearance-maker last season. He could surpass Jean-Marc Pilorget’s 436 games mark in the upcoming campaign. He also signed a new deal at the end of 2022, which could let him stay in Paris until 2028.
PSG value Verratti highly and will demand top dollar for the player amid growing interest. There is no chance for Liverpool to pay up €70 million for a player who does not offer longevity to this project. Diego Simeone, at Atletico, will also view it the same way.
